Lynn Myers in his white tae kwon do uniform prior to his formal study of kenpo

The "White Tiger" name originally came about because of one thing: a gi.
In the early 1990s, several American Kenpo students under instruction by Mr. Herb Padigimus held a seminar in Logan, Utah. Due to a need for a proper training space for the seminar, the kenpoists decided to hold the event at the studio of Lynn Myers, who at the time was a committed tae kwon do and karate student. Because the seminar was held at Mr. Myers's school, the group agreed (with perhaps a little reluctance, the story goes) to allow Mr. Myers to attend the seminar despite his tae kwon do background.
Mr. Myers wore his white gi. His white tae kwon do uniform in a sea of black kenpo gis, combined with the traditional way in which Mr. Myers executed his upward blocks and palm claws, lead a kenpoist at the seminar to sarcastically state something like, "You look like a white tiger, Lynn."
The nickname stuck, and over time Lynn Myers began to be referred to as "The White Tiger of Cache Valley." We are White Tiger Kenpo Karate, then, not because we study a different style of Kenpo with a different name, but because we embrace Master Myers's commitment to blending traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean martial arts with our ongoing love for American Kenpo.
No, "White Tiger Kenpo Karate" (WTKK) is the name of our martial arts studio. At White Tiger, we study "Kenpo Karate," what we call our mix of American Kenpo, traditional karate, and Tae Kwon Do.
And our gis? They're usually black now.
